Caribbean Agroforestry Institute CAI Fundraising Update

Published on October 19, 2023 by Richard Brinegar

Dear Supporters & Friends of Regenerative Agriculture,

We are writing to you today to ask for your financial support to help the Caribbean Agroforestry Institute as we execute the buildout phases of our classroom and associated facilities at our flagship regenerative farm school in Camuy, Puerto Rico. We don’t need a lot, but we do need your support!

Your tax deductible donations to our 501c3 & Puerto Rican 1101.1 non profit will directly impact Puerto Rico and other communities across the globe (our students come from many different regions), as well as our collective food resiliency through:

  • Education programs (check them out!), from half-day to multi-week immersive experiences in agroforestry, herbalism, permaculture, farmland assessment and identification, farm-to-table cooking, plant propagation, water filtration, energy systems, survival techniques, and so much more. We are a family friendly facility with classes for students of all ages!

  • Diverse Food Production & Regenerative farming for the cleanest, highest standards.

  • Training ecological farm stewards, managers, and employees; reducing farmers’ dependency on herbicides, pesticides, and degenerative farming practices which are currently poisoning the groundwater, the soils, and inhabitants.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TODAY!

We have designed our facilities to require minimal inputs which will generate maximum impact to further our mission of educating men and woman in creating resilient food and energy systems here in Puerto Rico and across the world. As we complete the build-out for our 2024 opening, your donations will be used directly to build an open air classroom facility, community kitchen, student bathhouse, & eco friendly toilets. We use permaculture principals in all of our efforts, which means our actions place the health of the planet & people first. Our buildings carry a low carbon footprint and prioritize:

  • Sustainably sourced materials

  • Local Labor; Engaging our neighbors to keep money in the community.

  • Using minimalist off-grid energy production of electricity and methane capture.

LOOK FURTHER INTO WHERE YOUR DONATIONS WILL GO!

Donations made through DonatePR.com allow you to track how and where your donations are used to build these unique projects:

  • Classroom Facilities; We model our courses in the Epicurean ideals of learning about nature by being in nature. We firmly believe that sitting in a plastic desk in a cement block will miss the mark. The classroom is the heart of our non-profit, with

  • Community Kitchen: A hexagonal, reciprocal- roof, and earthen floor facility constructed using sustainably    harvested    local    hardwoods    with

enough capacity to host multi-day farm-to-table meals for 40 people. The facility uses rainwater catchment to help water the crops, while food waste is managed to generate methane to be used right back into the cook stoves. Our goal is to close the

cycle to make delicious organic meals to nourish the bodies and minds of all our students.

facilities that are beautiful and functional are a key to keeping the bodies clean and the minds open.

Any donation is greatly appreciated and will help us fulfill our mission to research, demonstrate and educate in the fields of

agroforestry, permaculture and off grid living in support of people, pollinators and planet. We are grateful to share our passion with you and all of our students and welcome you to join in our vision of a resilient food system in Puerto Rico and across the World.
