About


Hogar Ruth, Inc. has been known for offering protection and support services since 1984; that they have saved the lives of thousands of women, boys, and girls; victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. We are a non-profit institution that complies with the vision of "promoting human rights and offering safe and supportive spaces for coexistence that save the lives of women, girls and boys." At the same time, with the mission of "Promoting freedom, empowerment and independence of women, girls and boys that allow them to get away from gender violence, by offering comprehensive and quality services."
Hogar Ruth Inc. has programs for the primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention of domestic violence in Puerto Rico. Between these:/www.hogarruth.com

1.      Shelter program (residential): This program offers protection and temporary shelter (for 90 days) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to single women or their sons and daughters. Services are coordinated based on the needs of the host families. They are provided with personal items, daily meals and snacks, legal guidance, support, accompaniment and protection in all legal proceedings and other necessary steps. Integrated into the shelter's service is the Boys and Girls Program through which the healthy development of minors is promoted through professional evaluation of the impact of violence on them. You are offered psychological assessment and services, tutoring, educational recreation, nutrition, and health services. Tools are designed to work together with the mother, strategies for raising children in peace.

As services to victims, their sons and daughters have been professionalized, and knowledge of their needs has been expanded, the new strategies come to respond more comprehensively to these needs. Other services out of the hostel's scenario have been developed by the, these include the following:

1. Housing Programs- to meet the housing needs of survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and / or dating violence. We have three projects:

a.  Guayacán Housing Project - temporary housing vouchers for victims with sons and daughters for a period of 6 months to two years. Subsidized by Housing and Urban Development, Continumm of Care (CoC).

b. Housing Project for Less Served Populations- transitional housing for survivors of violence with priority in the immigrant population, elderly, LGBT, and applicants with children with disabilities. Subsidized by the US Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women

c. Emergency Solutions Project- provides payment assistance services for rent deposit, utilities, and short-term rent under the Rapid Housing component. Subsidized under the funds of Emergency Shelter Solutions through the Department of the Family.

2. Outpatient Orientation and Counseling Program - Free orientation services, individual counseling, accompaniment to processes, service coordination and support group for survivors of violence.

3. Legal Intercession Program - It offers orientation, support, accompaniment and legal representation services in the process of requesting an Order of Protection in the Specialized Room on Domestic Violence of the Court of Arecibo and the Specialized Room on Domestic Violence of the Bayamón Court.

4. Education and Violence Prevention Program - Educational strategies for the prevention of gender violence, domestic violence and sexual assault are coordinated and developed. Talks, workshops, information tables, and community outreach activities are offered in schools, universities, churches, businesses, and communities.

5. ERAAS Program- Sexual Assault Response Team - Provides counseling, accompaniment in all processes, counseling, service coordination and psychological intervention to surviving victims of sexual assault, men, women, girls and boys and their family.

6. Volunteer Program - Mechanisms are established to promote, evaluate, coordinate and train groups and individuals of companies and interested persons. Volunteering is a resource that provides services without any remuneration.

7. Community Outreach Program - Community development and outreach initiatives are supported for needy families anywhere on the island.

8. Mariposa Montessori- First and unique School program inside of a domestic violence Shelter for the kids of our participants

Last year, among the various programs, Hogar Ruth served 6,881 participants with their children's.
