Comedor de Bien

 

El Centro Madre Teresa de Calcuta Inc. es una organización comunitaria sin fines de lucro con base en Naguabo, creada para acompañar, cuidar y sostener a personas y familias en situación de vulnerabilidad desde la dignidad, la cercanía y la responsabilidad social. 
 

Centro Madre Teresa de Calcuta Inc. is a community-based nonprofit organization located in Naguabo, created to accompany, care for, and sustain individuals and families experiencing vulnerability, grounded in dignity, closeness, and social responsibility. 

We were born out of emergency, but we grew with purpose. Over time, we understood that responding to immediate needs was not enough; it was necessary to build structure, continuity, and models capable of sustaining good work without relying solely on donations. During 2025, the Center underwent a significant transformation process. Faced with the challenge of relocation, we not only successfully moved and equipped a new space, but also strengthened our operations and expanded our community impact. 

That same year marked the opening of the new Pasarela facility, our solidarity-based second-hand shop, which now contributes nearly 30% of the operational resources of Comedor de Bien, becoming a key pillar of its sustainability. 

Likewise, we launched El Comedor Restaurant, a social enterprise conceived as a space where food, employment, and purpose come together. This step affirms our commitment to responsible self-financing and to a solidarity economy that does not replace the social mission, but rather protects and strengthens it. 

The Center’s work is carried out through community programs such as Comedor de Bien, El Viejo de Mi Calle, Colmado Solidario, and Colmado La Merienda, each responding to different realities within the territory. 

We are not just a service center. We are a living network that learns, adapts, and organizes itself to sustain good work with responsibility and humanity. 

Nacimos desde la emergencia, pero crecimos con propósito. Con el tiempo entendimos que no bastaba con responder a la necesidad inmediata: era necesario crear estructura, continuidad y modelos que permitieran sostener el bien sin depender únicamente de donativos.  Durante el 2025, el Centro vivió un proceso importante de transformación. Ante el reto de la mudanza, no solo logramos reubicarnos y habilitar un nuevo espacio, sino que fortalecimos nuestra operación y ampliamos nuestro impacto comunitario. Ese mismo año marcó la apertura de la nueva facilidad de Pasarela, nuestra tienda solidaria de segunda mano, que hoy aporta cerca del 30 % de los recursos operacionales del Comedor de Bien, convirtiéndose en un pilar clave para su sostenibilidad.  

De igual forma, iniciamos El Comedor Restaurante, una empresa social concebida como un espacio donde la alimentación, el empleo y el propósito se encuentran. Este paso afirma nuestro compromiso con el autofinanciamiento responsable y con una economía solidaria que no sustituye la misión social, sino que la protege y la fortalece. 

El trabajo del Centro se articula a través de programas comunitarios como el Comedor de Bien, El Viejo de Mi Calle, Colmado Solidario y Colmado La Merienda, que responden a distintas realidades del territorio. 

No somos solo un centro de servicios. Somos una red viva que aprende, se adapta y se organiza para sostener el bien con responsabilidad y humanidad.
