2025 Year-End - II Donor Report
Published on December 9, 2025 by Mario Torres

In the second half of 2025, Rescate Playas Borinquen continued strengthening our mission with community action, education, and stewardship across the 642 acres of Punta Borinquen. Our monthly RPBQN Experiences remained a highlight for residents and visitors alike, featuring Leave No Trace awareness in August, an engaging Ramey History presentation in September, a hands-on Fungi Identification workshop in October, and a vibrant Bird Watching session in November. This season also marked several important milestones for our organization.

In August 2025, we proudly celebrated our 12th anniversary with a community cleanup that reflected our ongoing commitment to protecting our natural spaces. We were honored to receive the 2025 Platinum Transparency Award from Candid, recognizing our  credibility, accountability, and legitimacy as a nonprofit.

In September we coordinated our 11th consecutive International Coastal Cleanup in partnership with Scuba Dogs Society, reinforcing our long-standing dedication to coastal restoration.

During the month of October we held our Induction Ceremony and Annual Member Meeting, in which we initiated five new official Members and signed a collaboration agreement with Aguadilla Damas Leones Cívicas. Collaborations like these are an essential part of our growth and provide us strength as a united community.

This year brought meaningful visibility as we were featured on the front page  of El Nuevo Día, Puerto Rico’s largest newspaper, in recognition of our efforts to safeguard and rehabilitate our coastal areas. Additionally, we completed important access improvements by leveling the road to  Surfer’s Beach, while collaborating closely with the Department of Natural Resources to identify sustainable solutions for long-term coastal restoration and cleanup efforts. These achievements, among many others, were made possible thanks to your continued trust and support.

Looking forward to 2026…
For the upcoming year 2026 we have a myriad of projects we are hoping to complete. We are committed to repairing and leveling the road to Wilderness Beach, and are working with DRNA, an environmental engineer and other community actors to have the permits aligned and begin our fundraising for making the road repairs happen in the near future. Apart from this, we are hoping to continue collaborating with local businesses, entities and other organizations as we move forward in maintaining, preserving, protecting and educating in our beautiful Punta Borinquen area.

Last but not least…
Every month we continue to nurture community well-being through our free monthly Yoga and Tai Chi classes, hosted at the historic Ruins and on the shores of Punta Borinquen Beach. These gatherings offer a peaceful space for connection with nature, mindful movement, and community bonding, and have quickly become one of our most cherished ongoing programs. We also  continue with our monthly calendar of maintenance events and community activities. This includes day-to-day up keep and maintenance of the 642-acre area along with behind the scenes administrative duties. This also includes - but is not limited to - biweekly trash pickup, bimonthly mowing and trimming of recreational areas, RPBQN Experiences, and more!

Lastly, we want to give special thanks to Becky Taylor, Marie McDermet, Addy Medina, Gilly Miralla, Kate Malavenda, Carlos Alvarado, José from our individual volunteer program, Raquel Quiñones, Norma Román, Yeni Fernández, Dr. César Irrizarry, and many others who have devoted their time and energy to selflessly serving our community through Rescate Playas Borinquen. This is an initiative that goes a long way thanks to your individual  efforts. So on behalf of the community, thank you!
